Sunshine and happy-hours on 3 pet-friendly patios

The glorious Chicago time for sitting outside and basking in the sun while we chow down is nearly upon us. In case you’re a Northsider like me, you might not know about these pet-friendly patios I just heard about – and they all do happy hours! So take a look and make a book for your next outing – on your own, with friends, and with you pet… IF, that is, your dog is calm and controlled and okay with being surrounded by people!

Pretty Pippin’s Patio welcomes you and your well-behaved pup

Pippin’s Tavern –  39 E. Chicago Ave. Known for carrying the legacy of good beer and good cheer since 1974, Pippin’s Tavern, 39 E. Chicago, now welcomes customers to its new 40-seat pet-friendly patio. It’s on Wabash Ave., steps away from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. Relax amid the abundance of lush greenery in this serene oasis amidst the bustling cityscape. Happy Hour: Monday through Friday from 3pm – 6pm featuring $1.50 Oysters, $6 Charcuterie Cones, $6 Draft Beer, $6 House Wine, and $15 White Wine Carafes. Try the Weekend Brunch from 11am – 3pm with $30 Bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys. (90 minute time limit)

River Shannon  – 425 W. Armitage. Established in 1946 and located in the heart of Lincoln Park, River Shannon is a pet-friendly Irish Pub with an outdoor patio. They’ve been pouring Irish whiskeys and local beer for over 70 years in a  friendly atmosphere that welcomes dogs. One of the oldest pubs in Chicago. Happy Hour on the patio (and indoors!) Monday through Thursday from 3pm – 6pm.

Charming in the sun Streeters Patio

Streeter’s Tavern  50 E. Chicago Ave. After a day of shopping on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile,  Streeter’s Tavern is a good place to toss back a few cold ones. Try their sprawling pet-friendly outdoor patio. Or if you like a less exposed venue, go on down into the bar and find games like pool, pong, giant Jenga, foosball, and darts. Happy Hour: Monday through Friday 3pm – 5pm with rotating monthly specials.

2 New patio openings in Chicago

Chicago, like many places around the world, has a growing-ever-longer summer in which to enjoy its multi-faceted outdoor and patio dining scene. The existing available choices are a feast for the sun- and fresh-air lovers among us. But hey, you can never have too many choices, right? So when it comes to trying new menus and sitting out on new charming patios, Chicago is always offering us more. Here are a couple opening soon.

EVETTE’S ALL DAY2807 N. Sheffield Ave. Near the corner of

Sheffield Ave and Diversey Pkwy, the restaurant opens this summer and will offer an expansive sidewalk patio with seating for about 20 to 25 guests. Evette’s All Day melds the Mediterranean flavors of Lebanon with Mexico’s rich culinary traditions while staying true to Chef Mitchell Jamra’s Midwestern roots. Breakfast is served everyday until 2 p.m. and includes items like tacos, a variety of hash dishes and chilaquiles with a pita or tortilla option. Open T – Su 10am until 9pm.

ROUNDHOUSE SPORTS BAR, 2535 N. Milwaukee Ave. The recently opened Roundhouse Sports Bar in Logan Square will debut in late April a spacious, private back patio after revamping the space. Featuring an eclectic menu of traditional bar food with an Asian-American twist, guests will enjoy a $5 happy hour menu available Tuesday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The happy hour menu items include $5 menu items like Dumplings, Chicken Satay Skewers and $5 drinks including wine and a beer plus a shot combo. Open T – F 5pm to close. Sat-Sun 11am to close.
